Hands-On activities are a way to get the kids moving, exploring, and learning. This week I introduced angles, vertices, sides, and other geometric shapes. In math, I gave each child a handful of straws and twist ties. I had the kids make shapes, point out sides, vertices, and angles. We compared and contrasted the shapes. Then I had them make certain shapes with the specific number of straws. The kids had a blast and learned a lot too! I love when I see the "lightbulb" turn on for some students and when I hear, "Oh, now I get it!" These are the best moments in the classroom!
